Epsom salt, scientifically known as magnesium sulfate, is a naturally occurring mineral compound made of magnesium, sulfur, and oxygen. Despite the name, it’s not actually salt it just looks like it. Named after the town of Epsom in England where it was first discovered, this healing crystal has been used for centuries for detox, pain relief, stress management, and even gardening.
It dissolves easily in warm water and is most commonly used in baths and foot soaks for its muscle-relaxing and body-calming properties.
1. Soothes Sore Muscles & Aches
The magnesium in Epsom salt is absorbed through the skin to help relax tight muscles, ease cramps, and reduce inflammation perfect after workouts or long days.
2. Relieves Tired Feet
A 15–20-minute Epsom foot soak can help reduce swelling, soften calluses, and relieve foot odor or infections like athlete’s foot.
3. Promotes Relaxation & Reduces Stress
Magnesium plays a role in the production of serotonin the "feel-good" chemical helping you chill out and sleep better after a soak.
4. Detoxifies the Body
Epsom salt helps draw out toxins, heavy metals, and impurities from your body through the skin, especially when used in a hot bath.
5. Natural Laxative (When Taken Internally)
Food-grade Epsom salt can be taken (in small doses!) as a temporary remedy for constipation. But use only under a doctor’s guidance.
6. Garden & Plant Booster
Magnesium-rich Epsom salt is great for greening up your plants, especially tomatoes, roses, and peppers.
